I have a wonderful group of students who enjoy making each other feel special and important. They have participated in activities that have shown kindness and respect towards each other, adults in the school, students in other grade levels, as well as their surrounding community. As soon as I realized how special this group was I immediately put several steps into action that would allow and encourage these children to emphasize their wonderful characteristics. One thing we have done is focus on picture book read-alouds that showcase specific character traits they could relate to. The read-alouds open discussion about character traits and help create a strong classroom community. I would love to continue our daily read-alouds because the more diverse our picture books are, the more examples students see and hear that they can relate to. My students will continue believing in themselves and the world around them as long as they can relate to it in some way.

About my class
