My students have several opportunities throughout the day to work independently, with partners, and in small groups on their literacy and math skills. During those times, when you look around the classroom, you will see students sitting in desks, kneeling on crate seats, laying on the floor, or moving on wobble stools as they work. Allowing my students to have their own choice of learning space or work space, significantly increases their engagement. Our classroom currently has two wobble stools, which only provides two students at a time with the opportunity to move their bodies and wiggle while they are working. I've noticed that the students who are most focused during work times in my classroom, are the ones who are engaging in physical activity while they're learning. The wobble stools that I have selected, will provide more students with the opportunity to increase their engagement in learning by being able to fulfill their developmental need for physical activity. Additional wobble stools in our classroom will also provide the students with greater flexibility in their choice of work spaces. The wobble stools can be easily moved around the classroom to allow a student to work independently at his/her own desk or to allow a small group of students to to work collaboratively at a table. I have seen that physical activity and wiggling while working can benefit student engagement, focus, and learning, so I am confident that additional wobble stools can help my students and I continue to grow our love of learning!
