In this unit of inquiry, student's questions and research will lead to a deeper understanding of the content material. I place great emphasis on providing students with necessary materials and additional resources that will lead each student to discover answers to questions. The earthworms, insects, and live plants will directly impact how students observe, analyze and assess their predictions while continuing the inquiry and writing process. The materials provided will be available to all students in small group settings where students are encouraged to communicate with one another and compare discoveries. Students will be provided with opportunities to observe a variety of insects throughout their life cycles. They will be able to develop a curiosity and interest in insects and a respect for them as living things as well as come to understand the needs of insects being air, water, food, and space. Students will observe different relationships within an ecosystem, placing emphasis on how ecosystems are fragile and require care to maintain balance.
