Flexible seating will help my high school seniors learn because they will be able to move their chairs to long or short tables, work in groups comfortably, and sit in seats that accommodate their adult-sized bodies. This does not happen with my current desks with the hard plastic chairs attached. Students will have the flexibility to work independently and in teams and to move about the room as they see fit. They may choose to write on a clipboard or a small whiteboard rather than at a table. They may set their Chromebook on their lap or one of the tables. The small and large tables allow students to sit closer to or farther from their peers. The long tables give us space for work on chart paper or other projects. Overall, simple, flexible choices in seating will give seniors a great deal of freedom in the classroom.
