The use of Kindle Fires will allow my students to have another mode of technology to use in the classroom. Many of my students struggle with reading. Therefore, I will use the devices to download independent reading texts for my students. The devices will be used as part of small group reading. Many students who read below grade level are embarrassed because their books are smaller or shorter texts. The use of the Kindles will give the students more autonomy in their reading. Not only will the devices be used for reading, they will be used in math and science. The students will be able to use apps that are interactive math tools to help them complete math assignments. During lessons, it easier to use digital math manipulatives than using traditional hands-on materials. Also, there are a plethora of digital math tools and apps on the Kindle that I can use to differentiate instruction for my students. Science is another area the Kindle will be used in the classroom. I love using science websites such as BrainPop. However, it is hard to use with limited technology. The Kindle would allow me to integrate videos, webquests, and research into my science lessons. My students seem to respond more to web-based instruction instead of traditional textbook assignments. My hope is that use of the Kindles will increase student motivation which will then increase academic achievement.
