Emotional knowledge is a bigger subject than most curriculums show. By using calming strategies, comforting materials, and age-appropriate social-emotional books, my students can carry their new emotional skills with them through every grade! Early intervention is in emotional training is key. Young students are still using their amazing, flexible brains to develop social patterns they will use throughout life. Books that focus on emotional skills and vocabulary teach young children that these big feelings have names, reasons, and solutions. The materials to move, wiggle, stretch, and sometimes hide, give children safe spaces to physically express their emotions. When students have the ability and skills to accept and process emotions, they can then focus on reading, math, science, and building friendships!
