The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will increased collaboration and participation. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Students learn better when they have a chance to work together. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. My job as a teacher is to make sure my students are well equipped with skills and characteristics that will prepare them for the 21st century workforce. Those skills include collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, inventive thinking, and effective communication. These skills will come into play when it comes to getting hired and being successful in the workplace. Flexible seating allows for a student-focused learning environment which supports the skills needed in the 21st century. With the furniture that I am requesting, I will be able to design an environment that supports individual and team learning. Also, the furniture will give my classroom a "home away from home" feel. Students will be more comfortable to voice their ideas. This will allow more students to contribute to student discussions, collaboration, and work time instead of just a select few. Having these pieces of furniture will help me produce students that are ready for the 21st century workforce.
