At my school, there are more than 50 at-risk scholars. These materials will make a significant difference in the learning outcomes for my scholars because they allow for differentiation with a diverse group of learners, thus allowing me to address all the different learning styles students have and allowing scholars to have hands-on and interactive materials in mathematics. Many scholars find it challenging to understand concepts they can't see or touch. The materials I am requesting will serve as math manipulatives for scholars. Scholars will use the materials as visual aids and manipulate them in order to solve math problems. In math, they will use several of the materials (snap cubes, base ten blocks, counters) to master one-to-one correspondence, addition, subtraction, comparing quantities, fractions, and base ten facts. They will use paint for different art projects throughout the school year including the fall festival, winter solstice, New Years, Mother’s Day, Dr.Seuss’ birthday, and spirit week projects. With these projects, students are allowed to get creative and communicate through visual representations. I want my scholars to feel wonderment when it comes to learning. In order to provide a high quality education, high quality materials are needed.
