I strive to make my classroom a positive and inviting environment for learning. I will have 60 4th and 5th grade students sharing my classroom (30 at a time). The learning content in my classroom will be reading, writing, and social studies. The actual space in the classroom is small, so movement and organization can sometimes be difficult. Next year I will also have a student who uses a very large electric wheelchair. Storage carts with drawers will provide easy access and organization for each student. Table hooks (normally used as purse holders on tables) will get water bottles off the floor and keep them from spilling. A small writing desk will replace my large teacher desk. The creation of more organized space in our classroom will lead to smooth transitions and routines that ultimately support more time focused on learning. Storage carts, water bottle hooks, and a smaller desk will support my goal of creating a positive yet organized learning environment with "space" for learning. I decided to remove my student desks and my large teacher desk. I will replace the student desks with tables and a smaller teacher desk will be used for technology organization. These changes will create easier movement and flow around the classroom while also supporting collaborative learning. Students still like to have their own "space". By removing desks there will still be the need for students to organize their learning supplies. The sets of storage drawers will be placed alongside the tables so that each child will have his/her own drawer for supplies. I will create bright and colorful individualized labels with each student's name as a way to personalize each drawer. The requested items will support an inviting, organized, creative, and positive learning environment. Thank you for supporting my project!
