The carpet, posters, and conversation cubes will be helpful for students who may be nonverbal. They will be able to identify how they are feeling without having to speak. The flexible seating items will also assist in being able to provide some sensory to the students' experience while in the room. The use of the senses is researched best practices to teach students to self regulate. There will be bulletin boards filled with different textured fabrics for students to rub while walking around the room. This will allow them to move while feeling the walls. The goal is for students to learn how to self regulate even at a young age. The students will have an opportunity to play with emotion tiles to identify how they feel currently. The teacher or staff member will work with the students in the room as a temporary place to cool down and then return to the classroom.
