My first year teaching kindergarten was a joyful experience. I have taught other grade levels and moved to kindergarten because I have found their innocence and joy for education to be refreshing to me. I have learned that their joy for learning is also every minute of the day. These students want to learn all day but they are still learning how to play, touch and build. I want to provide ways for them to learn and play at the same time. My vision is to create different table top activities that are themed and centered around writing, math, and sensory with the kindergarten student in mind. Each table or area will have several activities to complete once the student has completed a task, they will be able to share their work in a meaningful way. I want writing to focus on authors. The author's chair is a great way to do this. Every student is an author in their own way. Students learn to write after learning how to share ideas, before students can put that on paper a child must have models to lead the way. The projects will help build up those skills needed for prewriting and writing. Math should be fun and ever changing the kindergarten student. Math has real meaning when it is put into play. I see my students completing math tasks as a "job" and earning currency for that job. Once that is done they can collect their wage and purchase an object or activity. This is where playtime can be part of our day. Students this young need time to use their own imagination without being told how. I want to see their stories come to life here. Lastly sensory is all about touching moving and connecting all those things of wonder.
