My students are severely disabled children ranging from nine to seventeen. Most of them will never speak or write. Some use wheelchairs and have to be feed through a tube. My students love music and to have someone call them by name. They love a sunny day with the breeze blowing on them. My students who are able to use words to communicate are brutally honest. My students love unconditionally. Little things can mean so much. Learning to open a door or say a first word can be huge accomplishments. Our art work is always interesting. They attend a school that is staffed by people who honestly love them and are willing to do what it takes to teach each child and to be all that they can. My students love to dance. They can be full of challenges, but also full of joy. They are challenged in most things they do and it can be hard to push them just a little harder but when they break through and accomplish the next step it can melt your heart.
