I have requested materials that will help students refocus on learning. I will push into classroom Morning Meetings to teach students how to practice mindfulness with these materials in their own classrooms. This project will give students access to materials that will help them manage their emotions and keep their focus on learning. The items included in the project will be used to create a peaceful space within the classroom setting that all students can be invited to use as needed. Bean bags give students a weighted piece to hold as a symbol that it is their turn to talk and is also a good grounding practice. The calming cushions provide a space that is comfortable and inviting. Students will learn how to use the sphere as a visual and tactile way of practicing deep breathing. The spiral art and clipboards will allow students to express their emotions through art and writing. Sand timers will help with setting limits when leaving instruction to use the designated space and materials. Students who use these materials to practice mindfulness will have the opportunity to jump right back into learning once they are refocused.
