About my class

Beginning my teaching career two years ago, I used hand-me downs from my wonderful and generous mom who is a teacher. I have since then loved on the different items in my classroom (mostly which were wall decor items). After seeing a fellow teacher friend use flexible seating in her room, I have seen the extreme benefits of allowing students to have choice in their learning, making the classroom an environment full of excitement and comfort. I am thrilled to make a change that will impact all of my students. This year, I am changing grade levels, and excited to see how first graders will be different from Kindergarten. One thing I do know is that they will have much more independence and with this comes the need for more choices in all areas. I want my students to feel a sense of pride, honor, and community within my classroom. Many students do not have a room or items to call their own at home, which is why it is so important to provide students with a sense of responsibility, knowing that this sort of classroom environment is a privilege.
