This past year I received a Chromebook cart for my Biology classes. Yay! The only problem is that as long as cell phones and Airpods are around, my students will continue to be distracted from staying on task. This has also been a very stressful year for my students and I want to create a classroom environment that is welcoming and still promotes focus. I eventually hope to work towards flexible seating this coming school year. Here is how you can help my students focus and stay on top of their work in a stress-free environment. The materials in my project include headphones for students who do not have ones to connect to their Chromebooks. This will help reduce noise when students are watching a video or completing an Edpuzzle. Other materials will help create a charging station so that phones can be away from the students' desks, freeing them of that huge distraction! Finally, I added string lights to help give a more cozy atmosphere for students who have anxiety or migraines. These will also replace the harsh lighting built into my room, making it more welcoming! The key to success for these students is motivation. And the best way to motivate is to get rid of unnecessary distractions that get in the way and provide an environment in which they feel encouraged to do their best.
