Band instruments work wonders for students learning and curiosity for new things. Good quality instruments can last a long time (especially with proper care). As I continue to expand the program outward, we will need new instruments, but also more instruments to satisfy our growing numbers. One can explain how an instrument works all day long, but until the student has a chance to feel and play the instrument, they can not really appreciate the art and skill that goes into playing it. The more instruments we have the better. Because all instruments require different techniques, some instruments are harder to play than others. Students who like the sound of a low brass instrument might do well with the trombone. Students who like the lightness and feel of the woodwinds (ie. the flute) might find this instrument to be more desirable. As I continue to bring in more instruments, I can diversify our band collection, so that the students have more to experiment and choose from during the school year.
