The materials that I am requesting are for the brand new sensory room in my classroom. These items will help encourage my students to take breaks when they are feeling overwhelmed, and it will give the students a chance to explore their senses with the various items provided. My students struggle regulating their emotions and will often act out physically or verbally. By utilizing an equipped sensory room, the students are able to remove themselves from a frustrating situation and take a break. Myself and my staff will be teaching the students how to ask for a break when they need one and encouraging students to utilize the sensory room, rather than lashing out at a peer or staff member.
