As a school counselor there are multiple ways I am engaging with students on a daily basis. I meet with whole classrooms to provide social/emotional, academic, and career lessons. I have small groups of 4-8 students that I work with on specific skills, strengths or challenges. I also meet with students individually, addressing their own needs in a 1:1 setting. Students' social and emotional needs come first within my role; utilizing effective literature and games is imperative in developing or building on those needs. It is through books, sand play, games, and various stress relieving toys, students are able to explore their emotions and reflect on their choices.
