My 9th-grade English students will become powerful readers and writers this year! They will engage in independent reading, book clubs, multigenre study, authentic research projects, and whole-class novel study. And they will write every day: reflections on texts, poetry, personal statements, argumentative essays, literary analysis papers, and more. They will develop their voices and gain the skills needed to have choice, agency, and success beyond high school. Our notebooks are an essential tool for daily growth as readers and writers: for reflecting on mentor texts, gathering ideas, experimenting with author's craft, drafting, collecting vocabulary, taking notes on writing and language, and learning to stay organized. Students make them their own. And on a practical level, having a notebook and folder system for our workshops enables us to operate smoothly on a daily basis. We are excited to get started!
