The heart and soul of our program focuses on teaching our students social skills and job readiness skills that they will need for their futures. To us it doesn’t matter what their disability is or how intensive their needs are, we will find something that these students can excel at and a way to make them feel important and successful! We currently have students participating in supervised internships throughout the community (McDonald’s, Family Video, animal shelter, food pantry, YMCA, etc.). We have students participating in a simulated work environment during the school day through a grant funded program called the PAES Lab (Practical Assessment Exploration System). We have had students plan, make, and carry out many different fundraisers throughout the school year. We also try to create many different job tasks to cater to student’s individual interests and abilities within the school environment. We have many student who love getting creative! They enjoy designing their own products and selling them to their peers, staff, and community members. We would love for our students to have access to a Cricut Maker. They would be beyond thrilled to design and make products surrounding disability awareness (i.e. “Spread the word to end the word”, autism awareness, Best Buddies, etc.) along with school spirit gear. They could then sell these items as a part of their transitional training.
