The goal for this project is to help my Technology students to identify everyday challenges that affect their family/friends/school/community, design a solution, and then create a prototype. Having a maker space in my classroom gives them the literal tools to take their creativity and empathy to a new level. But a 3D printer in that maker space would give their designs a refined look and feel that would otherwise take endless hours by hand. Turning an inspiration into a tangible thing can be a life-changing experience for a student. My students have an opportunity to demonstrate how much of a difference they can make in their community. My hope is that we can take the best ideas and prototypes and find organizations and manufacturers that can help them with taking their products to the public.
