As a first-year school counselor, my goal last year was to create 3rd-grade leaders in our school to combat the growing concerns of social and emotional issues in the classroom. Our pilot program introduced our club members to diversity leadership roles, activities, and challenges. This student-led club created a mission statement, belief statement, social contract to follow during club meetings and outside of the club. Last-year all items were crafted by the students or purchased with my own money. We will continue to handcrafts gifts for student and/or teachers. Our monthly club events include: - Bulletin Board designs promoting kindness and/or character education - Kindness Scavenger Hunt for Kindergarten students during Random Acts of Kindness Week - Promoted Random Acts of Kindness Week by creating a week-long celebration - Assist other clubs within our school - Volunteer for school events - Volunteering to keep our school campus beautified - Volunteer as helpers for Office Staff and Nurse's Office - Provided gifts for Teacher Appreciate Week It is our mission that the clubs extrinsic motivations will encourage our school community to adopt a Kindness Lifestyle. Since launching this program last year, I've watched as my 3rd-grade students have grown into school leaders by expressing their ideas, taking on new challenges, speaking in front of a classroom with courage, and speaking about the Kindness Club with such pride. The requested treats, activities, and gifts for this project will ensure that we can continue to spread kindness and encourage our little leaders throughout the 2019-202 school year!
