With a vast majority of our students coming from a high poverty area, many do not have access to quality literature. Currently our classroom library is not representative of the students and is not engaging. Our books are falling apart and they lack a good variety to match their reading levels. With a new classroom library, students for years to come will be able to have enriching experiences through quality literature at school. Students will have more opportunities to become better readers when they have access to books that are a better representation of their culture and that are of high interest to them. Having a new classroom library that has a wide range of books at different levels that are culturally inclusive and engaging, will benefit all students’ reading success. Success in reading will not be the only subject that improves, all subject areas will benefit with improved reading habits.

About my class
