I have been a teacher for 26 years and have used a classroom carpet every year. I am moving to a different classroom which does not have one and would love to have one again. There are many uses for a classroom carpet, so I know it will be well worth the investment. A class carpet creates a class meeting place and sense of community. It gives students the opportunity to move from their desks to the carpet, sit by others they do not sit by at their desks, provides a place for class discussion, turn and talk opportunities, teacher read-alouds, and many more activities. As a teacher, when I see a carpet in a classroom that is front and center, it tells me that the students are not sitting in a desk all day, they are moving around, and the teacher gathers with her class as a family throughout the day. This is what I want again for my new classroom.
