As a teacher I am constantly changing my classroom environment and instructional strategies based on students needs. I taught these students as 2nd graders and now I have them for 3rd. There are so many benefits with looping. With looping, it is important these students continue to be engaged and are excited to come to a comfortable safe learning environment. Students sit in millions of different positions. Upright, slouched, twisted, tilted. They stretch out their legs, sit on them, cross them, bounce them. They balance on the front of their chair or teeter on the back, because they are kids! The school environment has changed greatly over the years, so why do we still have students sit in a chair at a desk all day? There is no single book or instructional strategy that works for every kid, so there is no way a single chair/desk design works for an entire classroom. My district has limited options when it comes to desk and chair sizes, you can only trade for desks and chairs a number of times. Adjusting desks can be done but the height can still be an issues. There are now options where seating can improve learning and keep kids comfortable. However our budget of $250.00 does not allow me to order this seating, due to other materials and supplies needed for my students who don't bring in supplies. My students, administration and myself would truly appreciate flexible seating for our third grade classroom!
