For this project, I am looking to get three classroom sets of books so that I can build reading curriculum for my 7th grade ELA classes. Reading novels is one of the most important activities to happen inside of an ELA classroom. Choosing books that students can create a personal connection with is vital. I have chosen 3 books that I believe my 7th graders will love. The first book is "The Lightening Thief". This book is about mythology and a young boy about their age who struggles with identity and bravery. The second story I chose is "Tangerine". In this book there is a young boy about the age of my kids who struggles with a disability and being able to do what other kids his age do. Throughout the story the main character struggles with his own identity because of the way other people view him. The third novel I chose is "I Am Malala". This novel gives students an insight into the importance of education, overcoming the odds and standing up for their own rights. This novel will also give students a peak into a world that is much different than their own.
