Our school is launching a whole child centered approach. We are placing an emphasis on movement, learning self-regulation and emotional skills, and focusing on the child as a whole. So many students come to school with the odds stacked against them. By focusing on a whole child approach, we will be able to level the playing field and give each child the resources they need to be successful. My project will help give my classroom tools to wiggle while they learn and resources to help them calm down while they learn to regulate their emotions. Many adults cannot sit still all day and I don't believe our elementary students should either! Flexible seating gives them the ability to make the best choice for themselves that day. This project focuses on implementing flexible seating in the classroom and providing a "calm down" area within in the class to help students when they are feeling overwhelmed or frustrated.
