Findings from studies made by the University of Salford suggest that classroom layouts can improve concentration, enhance learning and encourage better behavior. Flexible seating is a non-traditional classroom arrangement that gives students the opportunity to decide where they will work and with whom according to the specific task or activity. Allowing them to choose from different classroom spaces stimulates higher-order thinking skills such as decision making and problem solving. For this reason, I requested different seating alternatives for my young students. Specifically, I picked active seating because of the intrinsic need of continuous movement that children on this particular age (6-7) have. With the wobble chairs and the balancing balls, students you'll not only be expanding their seating alternatives, but also you're providing room for continuous movement, which increases oxygen flow in the brain, help keep their minds alert and focus, and also increases their metabolism and core strengths. Your donation can make flexible seating and all its positive outcomes a reality for my students; ultimately you're contributing to increase their academic achievement and holistic development. On my experience, I have noticed behavior, cooperation and performance improvement when I give them the only 2 options currently available in classroom: working on the rug or at their desks. These items will help expand those options, help me make learning more fun and certainly improve their learning experience.
