Our brain study cohort will explore the research related to the adolescent brain's development and the implications for best teaching practices and academic success. Our cohort will conduct monthly literature and book discussions based upon the text, The Power of the Adolescent Brain by Armstrong Thomas. We will apply and employ brain research instructional strategies. Participating teachers will meet to discuss progress and share reflections about the selected texts and implemented practices. In addition, we will apply technological and digital tools, participate in Twitter postings and create an online and school based collaborative community to share and extend our knowledge. Our goal is to employ various brain research based practices, including Challenged Based Learning, to improve instructional methods. Our cohort will utilize digital tools, and social media outlets to achieve our professional development goals. We will leverage technology, and our Maker space to improve student academic achievement, increase student engagement, improve computational thinking skills, and connect to concepts centered around STEAM.
