My students are functionally nonverbal. What that equates to is they cannot get their basic wants and needs met with speech. In our highly-structured Autism classroom, we are constantly pushing functional communication. We have a structured snack time every day to help our students work on requesting things they want. The snacks donated would help ensure we can keep having this snack time. We are striving for independence in our classroom in all areas. Many of my students are not potty trained and struggle with fine motor tasks, such as feeding. The wipes will be used to help teach students how to clean themselves up in the bathroom, lunch, and snack areas. Many students with Autism and disabilities struggle with verbal directives and cues. This is why we use pictures, visual boundaries, and visual-spatial cues for where and what students are supposed to be doing. Cube chairs help the students understand their own space. These chairs have sides on them that help the student stay in their chair. This will help the students sit appropriately and learn.
