Diversity provides rich opportunities for my students to express, learn and ultimately create meaningful learning experiences. Allowing my learners to picture themselves in their learning creates a more positive growth mindset in the classroom. Creating an environment in which they can see themselves in their work is instrumental in their learning. Each colored pencil, each crayon, and marker, provides just the smallest piece of themselves in their work. Imagine what they will think of themselves when they are able to see all those little pieces building a huge picture! My students are noticeably more engaged in their learning and outcomes when they are given a personal buy into their work. From creating Fractured Fairy Tales to everyday classwork, my learners strive to infuse their learning with personal touches. Crayons, markers, and colored pencils will help promote personal reflection, extension, ​and overall buy into their work.
