My students love going to our classroom library to find a good book to read. It is also one of their favorite classroom centers. Our reading center will be so much more comfortable and appealing to the students with a colorful carpet and a cozy chair. The carpet also serves as a great instructional tool because it has the continents of the world on it with animals that are found on each continent. Kindergartners love looking at maps and globes to learn about other countries. This will also open up discussions and learning opportunities about different cultures from around the world. The poetry book will be a great resource during our poetry lessons and to help the students with recognizing and producing rhyming words. Each student will have their own poetry folder. The Pigeon Has to Go to School book by Mo Willems will be a great book to use at the start of the year. The students love listening to the pigeon books and laughing at all of the pigeon's funny antics. This book will help ease the back to school jitters. Language and literacy development are major domains of early childhood development. I hope that these materials and my classroom help with creating students that are lifelong readers and learners.
