Literacy is the most fundamental aspect of a child's education. Access to good literature teaches students to find joy in reading and furthers their desire to improve their literacy skills. As students delve into the world of a book, they are transported to places that expand their minds. The books that I have chosen were carefully selected after much thought and research into their themes and the topics they teach. They will take my students on many diverse adventures and help them to engage in different perspectives and ways to view the world. I plan to use these books as read alouds, introductions to new topics, and leisurely reading opportunities for my students to help them spark a passion for reading. A student in my class never passes up the chance to read a book that will bring them joy. These books will positively impact not only my students reading abilities, but will also help them develop the academic literacy they need to succeed across all subjects. As a child comes to use books to learn about inferencing, creativity, deep thinking, and imagination, they discover a whole new side of their brain that craves growing and learning.
