I have several students at one school who have a diagnosis called Cortical Visual Impairment. This diagnosis affects the connection between the eyes and the brain and requires specialized materials to be used so that the parent and teachers can work on helping the brain to learn to see again, and make sense of what they are looking at. Things that are helpful in this early intervention process are high contrast (presenting things all on a black background), reflective things, shiny toys, bright lights, and movement. I'm going to set up Vision centers in the classrooms that I work in so that the students can have a more effective Vision service time.
