As a school with very little art education in the classrooms, our students don't have many opportunities to learn about different art forms or to create art on their own. However, this field trip will be at the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities, which offers an Arts Day for students at local schools! The Arvada Center will provide professional teaching artists, fun and engaging workshops, and an excellent educational experience that can accommodate all of our students, including those with disabilities or learning differences. The two workshops that our students will attend are focused on clay making and playmaking! Clay making will include guidance from a skilled artist as students learn to shape clay with their hands and tools. Playmaking is a workshop on theater techniques and each student will have the opportunity to become an actor in a short play with costumes and props provided. We believe our students deserve these chances to explore their own creativity within the magic of the art world. This field trip could be the perfect stepping stone to the start of a great year. Our first unit of study focuses on Who We Are, which gives each child the opportunity to share about themselves and get to know one another. Field trips provide fantastic additions to our curriculm and also allow the students to explore the world together, which builds on our hope that each student can recognize the unique strengths of themselves and others.
