Seventy-five percent of the students at my school come from economically disadvantaged homes, where newspapers and magazines are seldom available. Their opportunities to learn about world events and important social issues are very limited. That's where Scholastic classroom magazines come in. My plan for the scholastic Scope and Choices magazines is to use them for reading comprehension and fluency. These magazines come with comprehension questions, vocabulary, and quizzes to test student learning. Students are more engaged when they are reading something that interests them. Each story will be used to teach students how to pick out the main idea of the story as well!
