In each of my drama classes, there is a group of students that are working to learn the sound system, lighting design, and all of the technical aspects of the theater. This group works hard behind the scenes to make sure that our productions go smoothly. An iPad for them would give us the capability to program all of the sound changes needed for the show. They would be able to move to the next scene with just a touch of a button. Currently they must make all of these changes manually, which can cause a significant amount of anxiety during a show! If we had an iPad for our drama department, it would also change how I'm able to teach. Before we add our technical crew to the production, the iPad would allow me the freedom to be anywhere in the theater and able to adjust the sound levels. I could be on the stage teaching or anywhere in the audience and with a touch to the iPad, I could start and stop music, stop feedback from microphones, and adjust the mix. It would eliminate the time needed to run back and forth to the sound booth, which means more time spent on instruction. That's a win for all the students!
