We are requesting new and engaging technology tools - coding sets and Osmo Genius kits - to help with coding skills and so much more! The technology tools that I am requesting for my classroom are super engaging and important for students to know how to use. Technology is the way of the future. My students already have access to several different devices in our classroom, and I am always looking for new ways to integrate technology into each academic area. Teachers these days have to work really hard to create engaging lessons that keep the attention of students. It is a digital age. At home, children are playing video games, using computers and/or iPads, and some even have their own cellphones at the age of 5! To increase student engagement and participation, lessons need to be incorporating new forms of technology as often as possible. Technology shouldn't be seen as a distraction, yet we should use it to our advantage to increase student engagement. I hope to get a Cubetto and OsmoBot to do just this in my classroom. Coding is something that kids find fun and interesting. It holds their attention and teaches them lots of important skills. Not only does the Cubetto teach them technological skills such as coding but it also increases communication skills, problem solving skills, knowledge of math concepts, increases creativity, and encourages storytelling. The OsmoBot also has access to coding activities for young students. It also provides access to games that include various math skills, spelling, reading activities, puzzles, and so much more! We have been lucky enough to borrow these devices from other teachers in our school for several lessons. The children are intrigued, engaged, and they want more! By having our own class Cubetto and Osmobot, I would be able to create many more activities using these devices so that students could continue use on a much more frequent basis.
