We are requesting a MacBook Air because of the convenience of moving our Listening Center from place to place. There is a specific program we work with that requires the use of a laptop or computer rather than a tablet. This addition to our listening center would allow the center to become mobile. This is helpful because we often work in small groups and would no longer be confined to the desktops in the back of the classroom. The SuperDrive would allow us to download the program we use onto the laptop so that we can continue to use the CD in other computers. Listening centers are important because they can model fluent reading, help students decode unfamiliar words, teach critical listening skills, and introduce new vocabulary. The program that we use is an excellent tool for teaching the phonological awareness and auditory processing skills, phonics, spoken language processing, and reading skills that sometimes our students need help with. This addition to our Listening Center would greatly benefit our students who require Speech Therapy or have deficits in the area of processing.
