The students at my school are from Orlando, Florida. It is a low income school with a high population of non-English speakers. My school is going 1:1 with devices next year. This means each student is given a laptop. It benefits the students greatly to each have a headset of their own. They can listen to books be read to them. These students work so hard, and learn so quickly. I know that if they had more resources they could learn even faster. For example, I want to my students to read books on their levels for homework. I can print books on their level weekly but I need the paper to do this. Every student deserves homework they do not have to struggle through. Every student gets a different book. I also want my students to be able to find a relaxing place to read interesting stories. In my classroom, I want students to feel like they are comfortable enough to take risks while they are learning to speak and read English. One way I can make this happen is to provide comfortable spots for them to practice reading. They also need interesting books that are on their grade level. Flexible seating is when students have options to sit where they please. By adding these new chairs to my room then students can take ownership of their education. When they get to choose where they want to sit they are more engaged in the task they should be completing. I have been able to see how a comfortable classroom environment aids students in taking risks with academics. This means trying to read harder books, do more math facts, and engage in meaningful conversations. I would love these materials to help my students grow!
