“Holes” is a fantastic read-aloud for fourth graders. It has an engaging storyline, enriching vocabulary, and strong character development. Each chapter allows for daily vocabulary lessons to enrich the language of my ESL students. We will also be able to track the main character, Stanley, and talk about his character traits and how those change throughout the book. By having a class set of this book, my students will be able to follow along as I read aloud, which will give my students a strong example of fluent reading. I will also be able to have high performing students read on their own in the book, or complete individualized enrichment projects.
