Too often, students perceive writing as a boring and monotonous task. Little do they know the incredible freedom that is granted by the power of the written word. My desire is to get my students excited to be writers by creating a relaxed and inviting coffee-shop-classroom vibe that encourages creativity the moment you walk through the door. Traditional seating at desks and tables does not foster the fluidity that is needed to enjoy writing. I dream of a classroom where students WANT to be, where creativity and freedom of self-expression are the norms. J.K. Rowling said, "The idea of just wandering off to a cafe with a notebook and writing and seeing where that takes me for awhile is just bliss." This is the experience I want to share with my students, and with your help, I will!
