The sewing machines I currently have do not have all the parts and are from 1980s or earlier. Machine sewing is an underutilized skill that is not taught in a lot of schools. Students in the Fashion & Construction course will learn how the sewing machine works, how to read a pattern and construct an article of clothing from the beginning. Students in the class will learn self-initiative, motivation, time management, planning, independent work, following directions and evaluating are crucial skills in this course. Along with using the machines within the classroom, I will have students who are interested in recycling old clothing into a new design, which is a part of FCCLA and help students potentially get scholarships.
