Hello, my name is Karen Smalls and I'm the family advocate for head start program serving ages 3 and 4. My job is to help parents overcome any obstacles that might prevent them from bettering their lives and in turn give their children a fair shot in life. When I say fair shot I mean better access to early intervention programs, better eating habit, learn about the importance of early health care, economic empowerment and of course better parenting skills. One of our major goal is to engage parents to advocate and become leaders both in education and in the student life. I belief if you equip parents with coping and educational skills it will trickle down to the children. Learning positive parenting skills is important to helping parents become self-sufficient. I'm asking for team building activities for adults that are co-parenting children and teachers, to demonstrate we all have a place and they're all important. I would also like to have games and books dealing with parent/child relationship, positive parenting skills, social/emotional behavior and games for challenging behavior and children dealing with ADHD.
