Our school no longer offers art yet there are many students who would benefit from the opportunity to be creative and explore using different art media. Art not only develops students' creativity, but it is a way to relieve stress, improve motor skills, visual skills, decision making skills, focus, confidence and collaboration. When I bring put out scissors, colored paper, stamps, markers or anything related to art the students are at the table eager to create. During recess in the library I want to give our students access to art material so they can create, collaborate, and express themselves uniquely. We have great craft and art books in our library to spark ideas. We even have received donated markers, crayons, colored pencils, paints and other materials. A few more art materials such as colored paper and stencils would open up more avenues for our students to create. I would like to give students an opportunity to make their own journal and customize it with stencils. They could create cards to give to their teachers, friends or family members. Students could also make a small pillow with a stenciled design. The colored paper could be used to create colorful Origami to decorate our library. I have buttons, yarn, stamps and other miscellaneous materials for other projects. I need a way to keep the art items organized and accessible to students as they come into the library. Right now my supplies are in small containers, some art materials are in cupboards and some in a back room in boxes. The 10 drawer rolling cart and caddies would be an organized and efficient way to keep everything together and easily accessible. It would make clean up easier and I could roll it into my office when not in use.
