My students LOVE to read. Most of them have found books that inspire them and genres that engage them. For these students, I would love to offer them more selection of books that they are inspired by. I want to continue fueling their love for reading by giving them more freedom and options in choosing their books. However, having Kindles in the classroom will benefit struggling readers the most. Imagine being a 5th grade student still struggling to read 3rd grade books. These students do not want to be seen in class reading a 3rd grade book. Secondly, having a Kindle and the "read along" capability will open the door to higher level texts so they can still think critically about text that are on grade level. This will also help their fluency by following along as they are being read aloud to. This would be a WONDERFUL gift for these students.
