One-hundred percent of the children within my classroom come from low income households. All the children within my classroom also qualify for the free lunch program. The parents work more than one job to provide the basic needs for their children. We take buying laundry detergent and clean clothes for granted. For the parents within my classroom, this can be a huge struggle. They want their child to have the same things as the other children. Many times, they have no clue where they may get the money to provide this simple necessity that most of us take for granted. Providing the families with laundry detergent to clean their clothes is something that the parents then don't have to worry about. My project is to provide the children with laundry detergent for over the summer. This way when they come back to school they will have clean clothes to start the new school year. This will help the children to feel good about themselves and they will be ready to learn.
