Flexible seating is something that allows students to move in a constructive way. Right now we have chairs that allow for little wiggle room without becoming dangerous. Many students now are becoming more and more active and they need the liberty to move while they are working. Using flexible seating is a great way to turn active energy into a way to focus on their learning. Studies show that flexible seating can be very helpful to students with any type of attention disorder and is included in many accommodations for students on IEPs or 504 plans. With a variety of learners in every class, having different options for seating is important to their success. Right now my students have the options to move around the room for a place that helps them focus best. Adding these wobble stools and fidget bands will give more students the opportunity for a great place to learn and focus. Something else that flexible seating does is teach students to take control of their learning. Giving them the option to choose their own seats where they learn best teaches them to self reflect and take responsibility for their actions in order to succeed.
