As a part of our curriculum, second grade students explore length, area, and set models of fractions. These are tricky skills, and I want to make learning as accessible as possible. Hands-on learning is the best strategy to teach this concept and to allow students the opportunity to experiment with fractions of a whole. Paper/Pencil is okay, but we desire a more fun way! We could always use worksheets, but who wants worksheets when you can "play"? Tactile learning (working with one's hands) is a proven method of transferring information from short-term to long-term memory. We want our learning to have a lasting effect.
