In our classroom, we have so many students with special needs that require individualized plans and strategies. However, our classroom only provides two types of seating: a traditional desk and a round table for group work. The flexible seating that is on our list will help us to provide more individualized options to the children we serve. We will be able to provide choices to either sit in traditional seats, in chairs that will allow movement, or desks that will allow our students the option of standing or sitting on the floor. In the classroom, we are excited to provide the best possible environment for our students to learn. When deciding to implement flexible seating, we have completed research on this subject and visited other schools/classrooms who are already using this type of seating. We understand the pitfalls and the pros of using this kind of seating and are designing management plans to make this project as successful as possible for our children. We believe that we can positively impact our children’s learning by providing not only their individualized instruction, but also providing individualized seating options.
